Dr. Lesley Phillips

Welcome to our web site. I am Dr. Lesley Phillips. I graduated from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. I completed a valuable one-year internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the Animal Medical Center in New York City. I then completed a three-year small animal surgical residency at the University of Florida. I joined the AERC team in 1986. We are a major center for referrals from all over the country and I find these cases very challenging.

I am an experienced soft tissue and orthopedic small animal surgeon. One of my areas of interest includes Hepatic Microvascular Dysplasia (HMD). I co-authored a chapter about HMD in the year 2000 edition of Current Veterinary Therapy XIII. Here at AERC, we use intraoperative videofluoroscopy to visualize the blood supply to the liver when evaluating cases with possible HMD or macroscopic portosystemic shunts.

I also enjoy challenges that include laser surgery, laparoscopy and thoracoscopy. Laser surgery minimizes bleeding, swelling and pain. Laser is ideal for feline declaws, ear masses/ablation, skin masses, lick granulomas, and a variety of other surgical procedures. With laparoscopy and thoracoscopy, we are able to obtain biopsies of the liver and lung respectively with minimally invasive techniques.

Dr. Pierre S. Bichsel

Dr. Bichsel graduated from the University of Berne, Switzerland. He completed one year of assistantship in a small animal private practice, then spent six years in different departments of the University of Berne, namely an internship in the Small Animal Clinic, diagnostic and research in the Rabies Control Center, and clinical work and research at the Institute for Animal Neurology. He then moved to the United States for his residency in neurology with Professor John E Oliver, Jr. for three years in Athens, GA. He went back to Switzerland as an assistant professor in clinical neurology at the University of Berne. He opened his own private practice in Geneva, Switzerland a few years later. Dr. Bichsel moved back to the United States to join Dr. Ronald Lyman's team at the Animal Emergency and Referral Center in Fort Pierce, FL.

Dr. Bichsel is a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Neurology. His fields of expertise involve neurological diagnosis, electrodiagnostic testing, neuroradiology, and neurosurgery in dogs and cats.
