Welcome to our web site. I am Dr. Lesley
Phillips. I graduated from The Ohio State University College
of Veterinary Medicine. I completed a valuable one-year
internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the
Animal Medical Center in New York City. I then completed
a three-year small animal surgical residency at the University
of Florida. I joined the AERC team in 1986. We are a major
center for referrals from all over the country and I find
these cases very challenging.
I am an experienced soft tissue and orthopedic
small animal surgeon. One of my areas of interest includes
Hepatic Microvascular Dysplasia (HMD). I co-authored a
chapter about HMD in the year 2000 edition of Current
Veterinary Therapy XIII. Here at AERC, we use intraoperative
videofluoroscopy to visualize the blood supply to the
liver when evaluating cases with possible HMD or macroscopic
portosystemic shunts.
I also enjoy challenges that include laser
surgery, laparoscopy and thoracoscopy. Laser surgery minimizes
bleeding, swelling and pain. Laser is ideal for feline
declaws, ear masses/ablation, skin masses, lick granulomas,
and a variety of other surgical procedures. With laparoscopy
and thoracoscopy, we are able to obtain biopsies of the
liver and lung respectively with minimally invasive techniques.

Our Practice Manager, Lori Emerson, has worked with us
for over 18 years. She is exceptionally skilled at fielding
questions and handling special concerns that clients and
